#Lou Rosé by Peyrassol

COST – $13.99 – $29.99

GRAPE – Cinsault, Grenache, Syrah

COUNTRY – France

REGION – Provence

POST ROAD’S DESCRIPTION – Another wonderful Provencial Rosé by Peyrassol.

TASTING NOTES – Clear, brilliant appearance. Pale pink color with bluish reflections. The aroma is highly expressive: spicy notes combined with many small red fruits (blackcurrants, redcurrants, wild strawberries) and Peach Melba, with citrus notes at the finish. On the palate, crisp, initially mineral, and then avidly fruity. The finish majors on delicacy and slight minerality

TALES FROM A TASTING

Did you know donuts (or correctly spelled doughnut) and rosé are actually a thing? They are so much a thing that one of the new trends is to bake rosé right into that round doughy goodness. Homer Simpson would feel very fancy. And why not? A nice glazed donut with a crisp and slightly dry rosé sounded like fun to me! So, when Post Road Liquors recommended I try #Lou Rosé by Peyrassol I was all over the rosé and donuts thing.

I was especially interested in the donut pairing because a friend strongly suggested I had to try the freshly made donuts at The Downy Flake while on Nantucket. So, I headed to the cute little diner to pick up a dozen and a half of the beloved breakfast treats. The place was jammin’, and I’m not just talking about donuts. People lined up on both the take-out side and dining side to enjoy the home-cooked goodness. It’s no wonder the place has been able to stay in business for over 80 years!

Just as promised by my friend, the donuts were hot! Simple flavors top the base of a plain flaky donut. My personal favorite was the maple-glazed but found the sugar-coated donut paired best with the #Lou Rosé. The kids, who ate the majority, dug the chocolate-glazed.

Back to the #Lou Rosé, it really is a delightful wine typical of the rosés from Provence, France. I’ll be honest, I’m a picky rosé drinker. There are a few big name brands that I scratch my head wondering why everyone loves. I think it’s just because people haven’t tried rosés like the ones made by Peyrassol. I loved the subtleness of the #Lou Rosé. The slight fruitiness and dry finish made it so very easy to drink.

I was also amazed at how lovely the donut-rosé combo was. Seriously, it is no joke! This is a definite must for your next brunch. Everyone expects mimosas, give them something different!
