INGREDIENTS for EASY FOCACCIA RECIPE

  • 1 1/3 cup warm water (about 120°F, too hot can kill the yeast, and too cold will not activate it.)
  • 2 teaspoons sugar
  • 1 package of fast-acting yeast
  • 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup extra virgin olive oil
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • roasted-garlic olive oil, sea salt, and herbs/veggies for decorating

INSTRUCTIONS for EASY FOCACCIA RECIPE

Time needed: 2 hours and 30 minutes

Instructions for making easy focaccia.

  1. Proof the yeast.

Heat water to about 120 degrees Fahrenheit. If it is too cold, the yeast will not activate, if the water is too hot, it will kill the yeast. Add sugar to the water and then sprinkle the yeast on top. Gently stir to make sure everything is mixed and wait about ten minutes until the mixture is foamy.

  2. Make and knead the dough.

In a mixer using the dough attachment or by hand, gradually add flour, olive oil, and salt into the water. Mix until all the dough pulls away from the sides of the bowl and starts to clump together.

  3. Rinse the dough.

Using your hands, shape the dough into a ball and then coat with olive oil. Put the dough back into the bowl and cover with either plastic wrap or a warm damp towel. Be sure to place the dough in a warm spot and let it rise until it has doubled in size (about 40-60 minutes).

  4. Rinse the dough a second time.

On a floured surface, knead the dough one more time. But, this time, roll it flat. Cover again and let rise for about 30 to 40 minutes. (This is a great time to add herbs, garlic, slices, etc. to the dough.)

  5. Decorate and bake!

Pre-heat the oven to 400 degrees. Stretch the dough into a greased 9X9 pan. (You could also use a skillet.) Punch holes in dough and drizzle more olive oil and sea salt. You may also decorate the top using a host of vegetables and herbs. Remember to really press down into the dough or they may roll out of place. Bake for about 18 minutes.
