We took Wine Wednesday on the road this week! Post Road Liquors stamped our wine passport with a great Italian red via their premium wine recommendation. In turn, we stamped the Italian wine’s passport and took this Italian baby to the desert. We’re glad to report the Col D’Orcia Rosso Di Montalcino travels well. 😉

Col D’Orcia Rosso Di Montalcino

TALES FROM A TASTING

If you’re familiar with Sangiovese grapes, then you know these “blood of Jupiter” grapes are pretty easy to drink. They are also the only grape that goes into a Rosso Di Montalcino (red wine from the Tuscan village of Montalcino).  We’ve actually been to Montalcino and enjoyed young Sangiovese grapes, which are a little fruity and a little spicy, but also make a great red table wine that should end up on everyone’s table, much like the Col D’Orcia Rosso Di Montalcino.

We had travel plans this week and thought it would be fun to take this red a little further West. We felt a little guilty variating from Post Road’s food pairing recommendation of red sauce. But, since we were so close to South of the Border in the lovely state of Arizona, we thought fresh salsa and chips would be an acceptable substitute. It was!

Yummy on all counts! So, what did we think of the Col D’Orcia Rosso Di Montalcino? It didn’t hurt that we were drinking it pool side. Regardless, we concur with Boston Post Road’s recommendation. This is a very balanced table wine, that is easy to drink. They’ve yet to steer us in the wrong direction. Our advice? Head to any one of the four liqour store outposts, grab this red wine, and whatever else they recommend!

Cheers!
